Qualitative research

Qualitative research is different from quantitative research, as it gathers and analyses data that are not numerical. The use of descriptions to acquire more knowledge about ideas, socio-cultural phenomena, thoughts, experiences, etc., and to explore a certain context is often successful. It is primarily employed in the humanities and a few social sciences.

  • Avoid bias/subjectivity: In order to get valid and reliable research, all types of bias (scientific or personal) must be avoided. All research findings should be based on proper scientific procedures.
  • Determine the best way to conduct your research: As mentioned above, research can be done in various ways or with different focuses. Hence, not only should your research focus on your field, but you must also determine your most appropriate research design, according to your research objectives. The design is suitable for addressing your research question(s) and/or your research hypothesis.
  • Gather reliable data: Data collection is one of the most crucial parts of the research process. When you are conducting research, it’s important that the data you are collecting is relevant and reliable for the research you are performing.
  • Give credit to whom credit is due: Plagiarism is a serious intellectual offense. As a result, all sources of information used in the paper should be cited.
  • Verify the accuracy of sources: Make an effort to determine the truthfulness of all outside sources of information that you use in your research. When you have obtained information from the web, be sure to cross-check the information carefully.
